APCOM takes stock on MSM issues in Asia and the Pacific
The Asia Pacific Coalition on Male Sexual Health (APCOM) has expressed concern that significant global and regional policy progress will be undone by the cancellation of the Global Fund's Round 11 grants.
This is a major cause for alarm for men who have sex with men (MSM) interventions and organisations interventions and organisations working to adress stigma and discrimination, high rates of HIV among MSM, and other key issues in Asia and the Pacific.
"We're seeing a rapid rise in the number of MSM HIV cases in countries like Indonesia and the Philippines, where MSM account for nearly 70% of all new HIV cases", said Shivananda Khan, APCOM Co-Chair.
By 2020 MSM could account for almost half of new infections in the region unless spending is increased and effective prevention measures stepped up.
