New Executive Director for AFAO
AFAO Media Release | 12 April 2011
The Australian Federation of AIDS Organisations (AFAO) is pleased to announce that Mr Rob Lake will be the new Executive Director of the organisation.
AFAO President Dr Graham Brown said today that Mr Lake had won the job from a strong field of Australian and international candidates, which included nearly 100 expressions of interest in the position and 30 formal applications.
“AFAO is delighted Mr Lake has accepted the position. He is a well-known advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS and on behalf of the board and staff of AFAO I welcome Rob to AFAO, we look forward to his leadership within our organisation and the sector.
Rob Lake has been CEO at Positive Life NSW for the last three years, advocating for HIV positive people and designing and conducting HIV health promotion and prevention programs for people living with HIV. He has been involved in the fight against HIV in New Zealand and Australia since 1985.
“Rob Lake has been a significant contributor to HIV public policy development both in NSW and nationally for the last decade and has already made a great contribution to the Australian HIV response,” Dr Brown said.
Mr Lake succeeds longstanding AFAO Executive Director Mr Don Baxter, who finishes up with the organisation in late May.
Rob Lake starts with AFAO in June.
