Barometer survey

HIV-related stigma continues to be a major stressor for people living with HIV (PLHIV). In addition to appropriate HIV prevention, an important aspect of the gay community response is to address HIV-related stigma.

Between 1 December 2009 and 31 January 2010 AFAO recruited over 1,350 respondents into an online survey of HIV-related stigma - the Barometer Survey. A total of 1,260 gay and other men who have sex with men (MSM) responded to the survey. The results of the survey were analysed with the assistance of the National Centre for HIV Social Research, and presented in a series of posters to the 18th International AIDS Conference in Vienna in 2010.
